The most meaningful change happens when people feel heard, safe, and empowered. As such, my approach is compassionate and straightforward. We'll start from where you are and work at a pace that you're comfortable with.
Together we’ll develop insights into what you’re going through, build your capacity to handle it, and discover new tools to help you heal.
My work is trauma-informed. I begin with the assumption that we are all impacted by difficult experiences from the past, and that we can heal from them.
I am committed to honouring all forms of diversity, as well as challenging systems that would cause my clients to experience any form of oppression or discrimination.
How I Work
I completed my Master of Social Work degree at McGill University, and my Bachelor of Arts at Concordia University, both in Montreal.
I grew up in Quebec and speak/live/work in English and French. I began my therapy practice in Hamilton, Ontario and am now located in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
I use he/him/his pronouns. When I’m not working, I like to make music, exercise, and play TTRPGs (tabletop roleplaying games).
About Eric Burnet
Approach and Clientele
I support people navigating anxiety, neurodivergence, trauma, depression, and challenges in relationships or family life. I’ve had the privilege of working with 2SLGBTQI+ folks, neurodivergent folks, newcomers, at-risk youth, first responders, and others who bring a wide range of life experiences and perspectives. I’m a Registered Social Worker in Ontario and Nova Scotia, offering therapy in both English and French to clients across both provinces.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - I use ACT and CBT throughout much of my work. These approaches help us unhook from the storm of difficult thoughts and feelings that can arise from moment to moment, learn new tools to cope with them, and set goals for ourselves that are in line with the life we want to be living.
Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) - EMDR is a structured approach used to reprocess traumatic memories. It has been shown to be effective in treating diagnosed PTSD, undiagnosed trauma, and more.
Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) - I employ EFT interventions to help clients recognize the emotions and patterns present in their relationships. EFT is often referred to as ‘‘attachment theory in practice’’.
Polyvagal Theory - Understanding the connections between our mind, nervous system, and body is built into my approach.
